Tool Information

Goals

  1. Arts
  2. Entrepreneurship
  3. Economic, Environmental, and Social Impacts

Description

This tool involves the creation of a region-wide set of programs and spaces for artists, arts educators, and community outreach. Through working hand in hand with existing regional arts and culture organizations as well as schools, the non-profit organization leading this endeavor appropriates existing structures in communities where the need is greatest for studio space, exhibit space, classes for all ages, and community workshop and meeting space. These incubators are centers for creation and interaction.

Cost Details

The cost includes the creation of the non-profit structure for educational programs and arts creation as well as a sustainable funding strategy supported by public and private regional community partnerships. Arts asset mapping will begin the process of determining appropriate locations for incubators throughout the region. Rehabilitation of existing structures will be a significant portion of the cost. If the buildings are a part of a Main Street Revitalization program, it is possible that funding sources from these programs could play a part in opening the doors of each community incubator in addition to local, state, and national arts funding. Another part of the funding strategy for the organization could be developing the incubators as tourism destinations through organizing widely acclaimed exhibitions and workshops for youth and adults in addition to studio space.
